Hastings Mission Avenue Thrift NOW OPEN at New Store Location

September 18, 2024

Crossroads Mission Avenue would like to announce the opening of a new Mission Avenue Thrift Store location at 115 S Elm Ave in Hastings. This store will replace the previous location at 702 W 14th Street, which closed its doors on September 14th. The new location will open on September 23rd, with store hours of 9 am – 6 pm Monday through Friday, and 9 am – 5 pm on Saturday. The newly renovated location will offer 6500 square feet of retail space, allowing ample room to showcase clothing, housewares, furniture, jewelry, antiques, and books. The store will continue to supply a local option for purchasing low-cost clothing and household goods. Every sale supports the efforts of Crossroads Mission Avenue as they provide homeless services in Adams County and throughout the region.

Crossroads Mission Avenue operates six Mission Avenue Thrift Store locations in Central Nebraska, which provide jobs and job training for their guests, as well as offering employment and volunteer opportunities for community residents. The Hastings Store employs 6 Adams County residents who work alongside 49 volunteers who have donated over 2,500 hours in the store in 2024.

The Mission Avenue Thrift Stores also supply recycle opportunities as Nebraskans bring their no-longer-needed items to the stores or drop off their items in one of Crossroads’ donation bins, located conveniently throughout the region. Crossroads will recycle and reuse around 1,200,000 pounds of metal, books, clothing, toys, shoes, and accessories this year, keeping those items out of the Nebraska landfills.

As Crossroads strives to care for those in need in our communities, the Mission Avenue Thrift Stores play a vital role. Each store offers Community Needs Vouchers which supply necessary clothing and household goods at no cost to families referred by a community agency. The Hastings Store has already supplied over $20,000 worth of merchandise to 634 individuals so far this year.

Daniel Buller, Executive Director for Crossroads Mission Avenue, is excited to bring this expanded retail space to Hastings. “We have been searching for the right location with adequate space for quite some time and we praise the Lord that he has opened the door to just the right location! Mission Avenue Thrift stores have become a major source of sustainability, helping the Mission to make a major impact through the Central Nebraska region as we work to bring glory to God through the helping of people. Our stores offer a place for people to donate so that their donation of used items stays local and makes a difference locally.”

Crossroads Mission Avenue has been serving the homeless in Central Nebraska for over 40 years, with locations in Kearney, Grand Island, and Hastings. A campaign to bring homeless services to Lexington is currently underway. Their Hastings campus consists of an emergency shelter and transitional housing in coordination with the State of Nebraska Probation, Drug Court, and Parole. They provide comprehensive care in a nurturing environment, which includes services such as safe shelter, hot meals, life skills classes, and one-on-one case management that helps their guests gain employment, financial independence, and stable housing. This equips Crossroads guests for successful living after their time at the Mission and leads to homelessness prevention. Over 750 men, women, and families will receive life-saving care on the Hastings campus this year alone.

Crossroads Mission Avenue’s mission is to bring glory to God through the helping of people.  Homelessness recovery is a long, complicated process for many of their guests, and step by step, Crossroads is there to help them in that process.
