FNBO Helps Crossroads Provide Workforce Development for Grand Island Guests

November 5, 2024

Crossroads Mission Avenue is grateful to receive a 2024 Impact Grant from FNBO, which will help provide our 4-Phase Recovery Program at our Grand Island Mission! The intent of FNBO’s Impact Grant award is to provide programmatic support to address community needs related to Workforce Development.

Workforce Development is a key component of Crossroads’ 4-Phase Recovery Program. Reports predict a deficit of new entrants relative to job openings, while Crossroads has assisted over 1,500 men with training enabling them to enter/re-enter the local workforce. Many life circumstances make finding a job difficult, such as advanced age, language barriers, lack of education, disabilities, prior incarceration, mental health barriers, or extended time out of the workforce. Hands-on job training experience gained while staying at the Mission gives our guests new skills for future job opportunities and provides employers a measure of assurance as they give these men a chance to prove they’ve turned their lives around. Our guests have the benefit of training to help them understand the expectations of employers regarding time management and basic job skills, equipping them to be good employees, and giving them the knowledge, skills, and attitudes needed to make a successful transition into the workforce. Training in finances, budgeting, and saving are life skills required for independent living and assist in breaking the cycle of generational poverty. The Grand Island community benefits as these previously unsheltered men recover, allowing them to become contributing members of their community.

The generous support of FNBO for Crossroads as we care for the homeless in Central Nebraska is truly appreciated! We are grateful for this partnership that is enabling Crossroads to step in and help when our hurting neighbors are at their lowest!
